Analyze your audience: a portrait of online casino players in 2025

Online sports betting and casino is a fast-growing, vibrant and, most importantly, lucrative field. It is one of the most attractive businesses where every day brings new challenges or new opportunities due to constant technological innovations and global regulatory changes. The only thing that is crucial is that the global revenue from the industry will exceed $100 billion within the next five years.
Now is the best time to open an online casino after the events of 2020, when the gambling industry didn’t suffer as much as many others and even benefited from the closure of land-based gambling establishments. But while online gambling is a unique industry, one basic business principle holds true for gambling as well as for commerce, music, fashion and any other business: to succeed in this sector, you must know your customers.
New operators who are just starting their online casino platform and integrating gambling software or betting platform must have a clear idea of their target audience.
Is the young male a stereotype?
There is no single portrait of the average gambler. However, while the data may vary from country to country, two commonalities apply to both online casinos and sportsbooks: players are typically males between the ages of 18 and 35. In this case, the difference between men and women is only 1%.
According to the study, 70% of online gambling enthusiasts in Canada are in the 18 to 39 age group, while 47% are in the 20 to 29 age group. Unlike older generations, younger people play casino games online more than older generations. This indicates that a large number of young people participate in online gambling.

The ground data points to a more balanced picture. While 37% of men say they have never spent money on betting in their lives, 43% of women say they do not gamble. Men gamble more than women at the end of the day, but the difference is small.
Older players are more likely to like land-based venues. This is especially true for people 60 and older. Although this statistic may change when the older generation spends more time at home with technology than they do now.
Recent gambling surveys show that both men and women still participate in online gambling. The survey, conducted between April and May 2023, found that 26.6% of adults have gambled in the past four weeks, a gradual increase from previous years. The survey showed that 52.6% of people who had recently gambled were male and 47.3% were female, meaning a relatively equal gender distribution.
